HL Deb 10 June 1976 vol 371 cc817-8
The LORD CHANCELLOR (Lord Elwyn-Jones)

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do now resolve itself into Committee on Recommitment on this Bill.

Moved, that the House do now resolve itself into Committee on Recommitment. —(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question. Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[The EARL OF LISTOWEL in the Chair.]

Clauses 1 to 4 agreed to.

Clause 5 [Contributory negligence]:

The LORD CHANCELLOR moved the following Amendment:

Page 3, line 24, leave out subsection (2).

The noble and learned Lord said: This Amendment would delete an unnecessary subsection. If the Committee would like me to explain why, I shall be happy to do so; but my own assurance that it seems to me to be a sensible Amendment has been confirmed by the noble and learned Lords, Lord Simon of Glaisdale and Lord Russell of Killowen. I hope that in those circumstances it will suffice for me to say "I beg to move".

Lord HAILSHAM of SAINT MARYLEBONE

I do not think we will insist on a full explanation in this case.

On Question. Amendment agreed to.

Clause 5, as amended, agreed to.

Remaining clauses and the Schedules agreed to.

House resumed: Bill reported with an Amendment.
