HL Deb 02 July 1976 vol 372 cc1015-6

Baroness VICKERS asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give the figures regionally, of the school leavers who are unemployed and the period of unemployment, distinguishing between boys and girls.

Lord JACQUES

Regional totals of school leavers under age 18 registered as unemployed on 10th June were as follows:

Boys Girls Total
South-East and East Anglia 15,552 11,189 26,741
South-West 4,986 3,663 8,649
Boys Girls Total
Midlands 8,948 7,215 16,163
Yorks and Humber 7,673 6,391 14,064
North-West 13,735 10,386 24,121
North 8,686 7,190 15,876
Scotland 3,735 2,962 6,697
Wales 3,086 2,800 5,886
GB 66,401 51,796 118,197
I regret that the statistics analysing the unemployed register by age and duration of unemployment, which are collected half-yearly (in January and July) do not distinguish school leavers from other unemployed persons.

House adjourned at sixteen minutes before three o'clock.
