HL Deb 13 January 1976 vol 367 cc75-6

Lord DONALDSON of KINGS-BRIDGE rose to move, That the draft Insurance Companies (Northern Ireland) Order 1975, laid before the House on 7th November, be approved. The noble Lord said: My Lords, I call deal with this Order rather more briefly. Its purpose is to consolidate, with certain very limited exceptions, the law in Northern Ireland on insurance companies. The present legislation on the subject is contained in the Insurance Companies Act (Northern Ireland) 1968 and the Insurance Companies Amendment Act 1973. Similar consolidating legislation was approved by this House last year in relation to the law in Great Britain' on insurance companies and the present Order follows as closely as possible the form and wording of the Great Britain enactment. This Order will greatly simplify matters for the many insurance companies carrying on business in both Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and generally the consolidation will be of help to all those involved with insurance company law. Accordingly I commend the Order to the House. I beg to move.

Moved, That the draft Insurance Companies (Northern Ireland) Order 1975, laid before the House on 7th November, be approved.—(Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
