The LORD CHAIRMAN of COMMITTEES (The Earl of Listowel)

My Lords, with the leave of the House I should like to make a Statement. On 7th August, I announced to the House the arrangements for considering the Starritt Report on the Security of the Palace of Westminster. I am glad to say that the following Peers have agreed to serve on the small committee, to be set up jointly with the House of Commons, to examine the Report:

  • The noble Earl, Lord St. Aldwyn,
  • The noble Viscount, Lord Hood,
  • The noble Lord, Lord Amulree,
  • The noble Lord, Lord Champion.
The terms of reference of the committee, which have been agreed with the House of Commons, will be:

"To consider the review of security at the Palace of Westminster carried out by Sir James Starritt, CVO, lately Deputy Commissioner, Metropolitan Police, and to make recommendations."

Mr. Speaker has made a similar Statement in another place this morning.
