HL Deb 12 November 1975 vol 365 cc1954-5

[Nos. 35 and 35A]

Schedule 4, page 65, line 5. after ("suit") insert (", or in Scotland the instance,").

The Commons disagreed to this Amendment for the following Reason:

Because the provision does not apply in Scotland.

Lord MELCHETT

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth not insist on their Amendment No. 35 to which the Commons have disagreed for the Reason numbered 35A: Because the provision does not apply to Scotland". This Amendment was accepted by the Government in an excess of zeal for Scottish definitions which was no doubt engendered by the enthusiasm of the noble Earl, Lord Balfour, but I regret to say that we went slightly too far.

Moved, That this House doth not insist on their Amendment No. 35 to which the Commons have disagreed for the Reason numbered 35A.—(Lord Melchett.)
