My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. I think it would be for the convenience of the House if I were to ask leave to move all the Amendments set out on the Marshalled List. They are consequential on the coming into effect of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.

Moved, That the Amendments to Private Business Standing Orders set out on the Marshalled List be made.—(The Earl of Listowel.)

The Amendments were as follows:

Amendment No. 1, Standing Order 1, leave out lines 18 to 30, and insert "the term 'local authority' means any of the following:— In England and Wales,

  1. (a) the council of a county,
  2. (b) the council of a district,
  3. (c) the council of a parish or group of parishes or the parish meeting of a parish which has no separate parish council,
  4. (d) the council of a community or group of communities or the community meetings of a community which has no separate community council,
  5. (e) the Greater London Council,
  6. (f) the Common Council of the City of London,
  7. (g) (the council of a London borough: In Scotland,
  1. (a) a regional council,
  2. (b) an islands area council,
  3. (c) a district council."
