HL Deb 30 June 1975 vol 362 c13

2.59 p.m.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE (Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge)

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a third time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a.—(Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge.)

On Question, Bill read 3a.

Lord DONALDSON of KINGSBRIDGE moved the Amendment:

Page 3, line 26, at end insert: ( ) At least one of the members of the Appeals Board shall be a barrister or solicitor of not less than seven years' standing.

The noble Lord said: My Lords, at the Report stage I undertook to move an Amendment in these terms clarifying the Amendment which the noble Lord, Lord Belstead, had asked for. I now beg to move it. Its effect is that one member of the Fair Employment Appeals Board will be legally qualified and that legal qualification be defined, as it is in other Bills, to mean a barrister or solicitor of not less than seven years' standing. I think this Amendment meets the wish of the House as expressed on Report stage, and I beg to move.

Lord BELSTEAD

My Lords, the Amendment which the noble Lord has moved does indeed meet the point which I made on Report and I express my gratitude to him for doing this.

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Lord DONALDSON of KINGSBRIDGE

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill do now pass.

Moved, That the Bill do now pass.—(Lord Donaldson of Kingsbridge.)

On Question, Bill passed, and sent to the Commons.
