HL Deb 24 June 1975 vol 361 cc1276-7
Lord WILLIS

My Lords, in the absence of my noble friend Lord Shinwell, I beg leave to ask the Question standing in his name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government to state when the police forces last received an increase in pay; whether there is a dispute about the recent award and what is the present situation.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Harris of Greenwich)

My Lords, at a meeting of the Police Council on 4th June agreement was reached on new pay scales for all ranks up to and including chief superintendent with effect from 1st September this year, twelve months after the last pay review on 1st September 1974. My right honourable friend the Home Secretary hopes shortly to lay the necessary amending Regulations before Parliament. There is no dispute in the Police Council about the award.
