HL Deb 18 June 1975 vol 361 c873
Lord GARDINER

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether there is any other Western democracy in which the recruitment, training and work of the Parliamentary draftsmen are not under the control of the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Law or the Attorney-General.

The LORD PRIVY SEAL (Lord Shepherd)

My Lords, my noble friend will appreciate that there are many structures of Ministerial responsibility for legal affairs in operation in the Western democracies. I do not have available detailed information on their arrangements for the recruitment, training and work of Parliamentary draftsmen.

Lord GARDINER

My Lords, I am obliged to my noble friend for that not very informative Answer.
