§ The CHAIRMAN of COMMITTEES (The Earl of Listowel)My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper.
§ Moved, on behalf of the Committee of Selection, That the Lord Raglan be added to the Select Committee on the European Communities in the place of the Lord Walston.—(The Earl of Listowel.)
Earl ST. ALDWYNMy Lords, I believe that it is customary for the Lord Chairman of Committees to make replacements of individual Members when necessary. However, would it not be better for the Motion to be worded in such a way that the Lord Chairman of Committees is to move that, "the Lord Raglan be added to the Select Committee in the place of the Lord Walston", rather than to put forward the Motion on behalf of the Committee of Selection, which has not been called together to consider the matter? I think that perhaps this is slightly irregular.
§ The Earl of LISTOWELMy Lords, I shall take careful note of the noble Earl's remark and consider whether the wording should be altered on a future occasion.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
