HL Deb 09 May 1974 vol 351 cc630-1

3.18 p.m.

LORD CROOK

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will suggest to the Post Office, for appropriate consideration, the issue of a commemorative stamp on September 27, 1975, to mark the 150th anniversary of the world's first steam passenger railway from Stockton to Darlington on September 27, 1825.

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, I am advised that this suggestion has already been put to the Post Office and I am sure it will receive careful consideration.

LORD MAYBRAY-KING

My Lords, as a Freeman of Stockton, may I ask the noble Lord whether he is aware that if the proposal of the noble Lord, Lord Crook, is carried out it will give great pleasure to the citizens of Stockton and of Darlington?

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, I am sure that the Post Office will note that.
