HL Deb 12 June 1974 vol 352 cc477-8

2.45 p.m.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD ELWYN-JONES)

My Lords, I beg to move the first of the two Motions standing in my name on the Order Paper.

As I explained to the Offices Committee on Monday, and the Leader ofthe House explained to the House yesterday, these two Motions are concerned with interim appointments following the resignation of the Clerk Assistant, and pending the retirement of the Clerk of the Parliaments at the beginning of the Summer Recess.

In order to deal with the situation, I am seeking the approval of the House for these two interim appointments to the Offices of Clerk Assistant and Reading Clerk respectively. I have made these appointments in the exercise of my responsibility under the Clerk of the Parliaments Act 1824, and, pursuant to that Act, I now submit them for the approval of the House. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House do approve the appointment by the Lord Chancellor, pursuant to the Clerk of the Parliaments Act 1824, of Peter Gordon Henderson, Esquire, to be Clerk Assistant of the House in the place of Robert Westby Perceval, Esquire, who has resigned.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question. Motion agreed to. nemine dissentiente.
