HL Deb 16 July 1974 vol 353 cc1010-1

3.18 p.m.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD ELWYN-JONES)

My Lords, I understand that no Amendments have been set down to this Bill and that no noble Lord has indicated a wish to move a manuscript Amendment or to speak in Committee. Unless therefore any noble Lord objects, I beg to move, pursuant to Standing Order No. 45(2), that the Order of Recommitment be discharged.

I should inform your Lordships that this Bill was referred to the Joint Committee, together with two recommendations made by the Law Commissions in a Report presented to Parliament on June 26, last. The Committee reported that the recommendations of the Commissions were for the purpose of producing a satisfactory consolidation of the law, and they approved the recommendations. They were of the opinion that apart from those portions of the Bill which implement the recommendations, and certain repeals of spent, unnecessary or superseded enactments, the Bill is pure consolidation and represents the existing law. They recommend that there was no point to which the attention of Parliament should be drawn. I beg to move that the Order of Recommitment be discharged.

Moved, That the Order of Recommitment be discharged.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Then, Standing Order No. 44 having been suspended, pursuant to Resolution, Bill read 3a, and passed, and sent to the Commons.
