HL Deb 08 July 1974 vol 353 c449

2.58 p.m.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD ELWYN-IONES)

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now read a second time. It consolidates the nine Acts which are comprised in the collective title, the Friendly Societies Acts 1896 to 1971 and certain other relevant enactments. It also gives effect to two recommendations of the Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission in their recent Report. If the House has no objection, I will not describe them in detail, because they will be examined by the Joint Committee in the usual way. I therefore beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and referred to the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.
