HL Deb 29 January 1974 vol 349 c165
LORD LLOYD OF KILGERRAN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will arrange for all Governmental statistics relating to Wales to be issued as a separate item whenever they issue statistics of any kind relating compendiously to England and Wales.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD ABERDARE)

My Lords, the Government Statistical Service is extending its provision of statistics for Wales and will increasingly publish separate Welsh totals whenever possible.

LORD LLOYD OF KILGERRAN

My Lords, I should like to thank the noble Lord for that helpful Answer and to say how much it will be appreciated in Wales. Without wishing to embarrass the Minister, may I ask whether it might be possible for him to press that the elegant title which he now has of "Minister Without Portfolio", might soon have added to it some such words as "and Minister of State for Wales"?

LORD ABERDARE

My Lords, we have a very good Minister of State for Wales; I do not think I need to occupy that position.

LORD LLOYD OF KILGERRAN

Yes, my Lords, but he does not sit in this House.
