LORD BEAUMONT OF WHITLEY asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the cost of the Charity Commission for the last year for which there are figures, the number of employees, how many of them are legally qualified, how many of them have accountant's qualifications and how the Charity Commissioners perform their statutory duty of promoting the effective use of charitable resources by encouraging the development of better methods of administration.

The cost of the Charity Commission for the year ended March 31, 1973, excluding the rent of the buildings occupied, was £731,000.

The staff complement on July 1, 1973, was 337, but 25 posts were unfilled. Of
