HL Deb 16 October 1973 vol 345 c149
LORD KILMANY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether progress on the expansion of Edinburgh Airport is up to schedule: and whether it is now possible to state target dates for completion of the principal improvements.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (Logo DRUMALBYN)

My Lords, I am advised by the British Airports Authority that improvements at Edinburgh Airport are going according to plan. The contract for the new runway has been let and the runway and new terminal complex should be operational in the spring of 1976.

LORD KILMANY

My Lords, in thanking my noble friend for that reply, may I ask him whether he is aware that the Secretary of State's determination in pushing on with these improvements in spite of opposition from a noisy minority has earned him the gratitude of many people, particularly in the East of Scotland, who depend on Turnhouse Aerodrome for transport about their business occasions?

LORD DRUMALBYN

My Lords, I am much obliged to my noble friend.
