HL Deb 14 November 1973 vol 346 c640

2.45 p.m.

LORD MAELOR

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether arrangements can be made to allow medical doctors to park their cars in places disallowed to the ordinary public, when they are summoned to emergency cases.

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, the British Medical Association operate a car badge scheme to identify vehicles on emergency visits. Parking concessions for badge holders depend on the discretion of police and traffic wardens, but I understand that the users are helped a great deal by the scheme.

LORD NIAELOR

My Lords, I wish to thank the Minister for his satisfactory Answer. Is he aware that I based my Question on a report in the Evening News last week that doctors, in those circumstances, were taken to the magistrates' courts and prosecuted?

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, I am glad that the noble Lord is pleased with my Answer. I think that our police exercise their discretion wisely and well.
