HL Deb 25 June 1973 vol 343 cc1766-7

[Nos. 21 and 221]

Clause 9, page 12, line 7, leave out "and" line 10, at end insert: and (d) no member of the Council is also a member of a Regional Health Authority or Area Health Authority.

LORD ABERDARE

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendments Nos. 21 and 22. This also is a matter of Community Health Councils. The effect of these Amendments is to place upon the Secretary of State a duty to make regulations to secure that no member of a Community Health Council is also a member of a Regional Health Authority or an Area Health Authority. This is an Opposition Amendment which was accepted in another place.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord A berdare.)

BARONESS WHITE

My Lords, again we appreciate the reasons for this Amendment and approve of them. Presumably there will be nothing to prevent, by invitation, members of either a Regional Health Authority or an Area Health Authority attending a meeting of a Community Health Council to explain the policy of their respective organisations.

LORD ABERDARE

No, my Lords; this refers only to membership.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
