HL Deb 20 June 1973 vol 343 cc1355-6

2.46 p.m.

BARONESS BURTON OF COVENTRY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether, in view of the Statement given in the House on June 7 last to the effect that those nationalised industries covered in the Report entitled, Nationalised Industries Relations with the Public (Cmnd. 5167) were in almost all cases corporations set up as statutory monopolies for the supply of goods or services to the public with statutory consultative councils, they will clarify the term "almost".

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD DRUMALBYN)

Yes, my Lords. The word "almost" was used because the Report of the Select Committee on Nationalised Industries referred to in the Question included one nationalised undertaking, the National Bus Company, which is not a monopoly.

BARONESS BURTON OF COVENTRY

My Lords, is the noble Lord aware that I put down that Question only for clarification? I have now got it, and I thank the noble Lord.
