HL Deb 09 November 1971 vol 325 c231
LORD BRAYE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what progress has been made regarding the project of a fog dispersal unit at one of our major airports; and whether the Gas Board has been approached with a view of using a natural gas flame for this purpose.]

EARL FERRERS

My Lords, a costing study of a possible thermal fog dispersal system at Heathrow, which might complement the instrument landing system, is still in progress. Information received from the Gas Council indicated that a system using natural gas could give rise to delivery and storage problems and be costly: the study therefore envisages the use of gas oil which is considered to be a more suitable fuel.
