HL Deb 20 May 1971 vol 319 c531
EARL JELLICOE

My Lords, I beg to move the second Motion which stands in my name on the Order Paper. I believe that the words of this Motion speak for themselves and require no gloss or explanation from me.

Moved, That an Humble Address be presented to Her Majesty, to return Her Majesty the thanks of this House for Her Majesty's most gracious Message, and to assure Her Majesty that this House, always desirous of availing itself of every opportunity to manifest its dutiful attachment to Her Majesty's Royal Person and Family, will cheerfully concur in all such Measures, as shall be necessary and proper for giving effect to the object of Her Majesty's Message.—(Earl Jellicoe.)

LORD SHACKLETON

My Lords, noble Lords will accept what the noble Earl has said. It is a fact, of course, that decisions in the first instant are matters for another place. I understand that there will be a Select Committee appointed.

LORD BYERS

My Lords, we on these Benches cheerfully concur in the Motion.

On Question, Motion agreed to: the said Address to be presented to Her Majesty by the Lords with White Staves.
