HL Deb 04 March 1971 vol 315 cc1487-8
LORD WELLS-PESTELL

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether Scotland Yard A7 Branch still has, in addition to a Commandeer, chief superintendents responsible respectively for juvenile bureaux and race relations.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (LORD WINDLESHAM)

My Lords, yes; but the post of Commander is temporarily vacant.

LORD WELLS-PESTELL

My Lords, while thanking the noble Lord for his reply, am I to understand that a chief superintendent is solely responsible for race relations?

LORD WINDLESHAM

Yes, my Lords, that is so. There are two chief superintendents in this particular branch one has specific responsibility for race relations.

LORD WELLS-PESTELL

My Lords, I am obliged to the noble Lord.
