EARL ST. ALDWYNMy Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Leader of the House, I beg to move the first Motion standing in his name on the Order Paper. In moving this Motion, may I say that it gives effect to the business Statement I made last Wednesday, that the Rolls-Royce (Purchase) Bill would be taken through all its stages to-day. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That Standing Order No. 42 be dispensed with for the purpose of taking the Bill through all its stages this day.—(Earl St. Aldwyn.)
§ LORD SHEPHERDMy Lords, I am not quite certain whether the noble Earl is quite correct in assuming that we are under an obligation to take this Bill through all its stages to-day. Certainly it is our hope that this will be possible. May I make one plea to the noble Lord, Lord Carrington, that we should have a wide debate to-day? Certainly last week we were very much of a mind to put down a Motion in order to debate all the implications concerning Rolls-Royce, and I hope that the noble Lord will seek to put before us as much information as it available to him.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
