HL Deb 27 October 1970 vol 312 c75

5.44 p.m.

Debate on the Motion for approval resumed.

BARONESS SEROTA

My Lords, the House will be grateful to the noble Lord, Lord Windlesham, for the careful and clear way in which he detailed to us the contents of a somewhat technical Order. He also reminded us of the comprehensive Bill introduced by the previous Administration which we shall be discussing when it comes before the House, and which no doubt will be debated over the wide area of drug misuse as a whole. Therefore I content myself to-night simply with welcoming this Order. I will certainly not go into the detail of the different drugs specified in it, but I should like to join with the noble Lord in welcoming the bringing under control of the drug mandrax, particularly because it has potent effects when mixed with alcohol. I agree with all he said about that and the other drugs concerned and will therefore, as I say, confine myself to welcoming the addition of these drugs to the Schedule and the removal of those others the reasons for which the noble Lord gave us in such great detail.

LORD WINDLESHAM

My Lords, I had moved this Order but it was so long ago that perhaps I had better do it again. I beg to move that the Draft Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act 1964 Modification Order 1970 be approved.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
