HL Deb 28 May 1970 vol 310 c1188

[No. 20.] Clause 27, page 22, line 44, leave out "be" and insert "have been".

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, if no noble Lord objects may I move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 20, and speak also to Amendments Nos. 33 to 39 and Nos. 41 and 42 which are the same point. This is merely an Amendment to leave out the word "be" and insert "have been". The drafting Amendment substitutes in Clause 27 for "deemed to be made" the words "deemed to have been made". The object of the Amendment is to achieve consistency of language throughout, and similar Amendments have been put down to Schedule 1 which are in exactly the same form and are Amendments Nos. 33 to 39 and 41 and 42 to which I have referred. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

VISCOUNT COLVILLE OF CULROSS

My Lords, I have never seen so many "has beens" in my life, and I am glad that they are confined to the Matrimonial Proceedings and Property Bill.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
