HL Deb 11 May 1970 vol 310 c407
LORD MACPHERSON OF DRUMOCHTER

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what was the total tonnage of cheese produced in the United Kingdom during 1969 and the tonnage exported.]

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, in 1969 118,100 tons of cheese were produced in the United Kingdom, 2,800 tons of which were exported.

LORD MACPHERSON OF DRUMOCHTER

My Lords, while thanking the Minister for that reply, may I ask him whether everything possible is being done to encourage exports of dairy produce, particularly bearing in mind the difficult world market for these commodities?

LORD BESWICK

Yes, my Lords. I understand that the British industry is very actively promoting sales overseas.
