HL Deb 07 May 1970 vol 310 cc305-6

3.18 p.m.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL) rose to move, That standing Order No. 147 (Bill as amended in Committee to be deposited at Public Departments) be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of the said Bill; and that the Bill be now read 3a. The noble Earl said: My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper.

Standing Order 147 provides that a Private Bill as amended in Committee should be deposited with the Government Departments concerned not less than three clear days before it is read a third time. Owing to shortage of time through the early rising of the House of Commons next week, the prescribed period of three days has to be shortened in this case if the Bill is to receive Royal Assent before the Recess. No Government Department has objected to the period of deposit being cut down by two days. I would therefore ask the House to agree to dispense with the Standing Order so that the Bill can receive the Royal Assent before the Recess.

I may add that these remarks apply also to the next Motion in my name on the Order Paper, and I do not propose to weary your Lordships by repeating what I have already said. I beg to move.

Moved, That Standing Order No. 147 (Bill as amended in Committee to be deposited at Public Departments) be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of the said Bill; and that the Bill be now read 3a.—(The Earl of Listowel.)

On Question, Motion agreed to; Bill read 3a, with the Amendments, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
