§ LORD RITCHIE-CALDERMy Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government whether assurances have been given that the B.B.C. will reconsider the alterations in their services at the end of June, that is, after three months of operation.]
BARONESS LLEWELYN-DA VIES OF HASTOEMy Lords, I said in the debate on Broadcasting Policy on February 25 that the B.B.C. would review their programmes in the light of public reaction to the first few months of their plan. The B.B.C. tell us that this is the position and that they have already made changes as a result of representations.
§ LORD RITCHIE-CALDERMy Lords, in thanking my noble friend for that reply, may I ask her to remind the B.B.C. that not only are we concerned about the content of radio, we are deeply concerned about the content of television as well.
§ BARONESS LLEWELYN-DAVIES OF HASTOEYes, indeed my Lords. The B.B.C. are very much aware of public interest throughout the country in both radio sound broadcasting and television. This great public interest is one of the best safeguards for our whole programme in this regard.
§ THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (LORD SHACKLETON)My Lords, if I may intervene, I should like to point out to my noble friend that asking the Minister to "remind" somebody is not a question.
