HL Deb 21 July 1970 vol 311 c846
LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, I beg to move that this Bill be now considered on Report.

Moved, That the Bill be now considered on Report.—(Lord Mowbray and Stourton.)

LORD ALPORT

My Lords, the noble and learned Lord the Lord Chancellor has risen to his feet and subsided twenty-two times in the last ten minutes. If we go on with the remainder of these Scottish Order Confirmation Bills (which I understand are unopposed) he will have risen to his feet and subsided a further fifteen times. I am sure that this is not a physical imposition on him, but it seems to me that this is something on which the procedure of the House might be improved to the extent that this business should be taken as a whole, on one vote, rather than going through procedures which would appear to most of the spectators here to be slightly unusual.

EARL ST. ALDWYN

My Lords, I can well imagine that it might well be for the convenience of your Lordships that this course should be adopted with Bills of this sort, but it obviously cannot be done without referring the matter to the Procedure Committee. If the noble Lord would like it referred to the Procedure Committee, he can, of course, ask for that to be done.

On Question, Motion agreed to.

Then, Standing Order No. 41 having been suspended (pursuant to Resolution), Bill read 3a and passed.
