HL Deb 16 July 1970 vol 311 cc730-1
THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF LISTCWEL)

My Lords, as the Greater London Council (Money) Bill has not yet been received from another place, I do not propose to move the first Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper.

I beg to move the second Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. The purpose of this Motion is as follows. Standing Order No. 147 provides that Private Bills as amended in Committee should be deposited at Government Departments concerned not less than three clear days before they are given a Third Reading. Owing to the Dissolution of Parliament, the prescribed period of three days has to be shortened if a number of Bills are to receive the Royal Assent before the Recess. I hope your Lord-ships will agree that to meet this exceptional contingency it is reasonable to suspend the Standing Order until the Summer Recess. I therefore ask the House to agree to this Motion, which I beg to move.

Moved, That until the House rises for the Summer Recess Standing Order No. 147 (Bill as amended in Committee to be deposited at Public Departments) be suspended.—(The Earl of Listowel.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
