HL Deb 21 October 1969 vol 304 c1610
LORD JACQUES

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the Reddaway Report on Selective Employment Tax will be available in time to permit recommendations accepted by the Government to be embodied in the 1970 Budget.]

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, it is expected that Professor Reddaway's initial finding on the economic effects of S.E.T. will be published before the end of the year. The Chancellor will therefore have them available when he is preparing his 1970 Budget.

LORD JACQUES

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for that reply.

LORD CONESFORD

My Lords, are Her Majesty's Government determined to maintain their great principle—think of a silly tax, double it?

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, Her Majesty's Government are determined to follow the principle of putting this country on a sound financial basis.
