HL Deb 21 October 1969 vol 304 cc1613-4

[The reference is to Bill (214) as first printed for the Commons]

Clause 15, page 7, line 9. leave out ("1st September 1969") and insert ("1st January 1970").

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment. This Bill is a 1949 Act Consolidation Bill, which left this House on July 24. It left it in a form in which the Bill would come into force on September 1 of this year, it being then anticipated that the other place would be able to deal with the Bill before they rose for the Recess. In the event, that was not possible. The Bill was not taken in another place until the first day they returned, on October 13, and it therefore became manifestly necessary to have a new commencement date. On the whole, it was felt in another place that the most convenient commencement date would now be January 1 of next year. Therefore, the Amendment that has been made is simply one to substitute the date, "1st January 1970" for the date, "1st September 1969."I hope that your Lordships may think that this is a convenient arrangement. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
