HL Deb 21 May 1969 vol 302 c325

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES rose to move. That Private Bill Standing Order No. 104 be dispensed with for the purpose of allowing the Select Commitee to whom the Calderdale Water Bill has been committed to consist of seven and not five Lords. The noble Earl said: My Lords, I should like to point out to your Lordships that Private Bill Standing Order No. 104 provides that Select Committees on Opposed Private Bills shall consist of five noble Lords. The Select Committee on this Bill, which will have to consider a number of Petitions opposing it, is likely to sit for at least three weeks. In order to ensure a full attendance throughout this unusually long period, the Committee of Selection of this House have recommended that the Select Committee should consist of seven and not five noble Lords. I am asking the House to dispense with the Standing Order in order to enable this recommendation to be implemented. I beg to move.

Moved, That Private Bill Standing Order No. 104 be dispensed with for the purpose of allowing the Select Committee to whom the Calderdale Water Bill has been committed to consist of seven and not five Lords.—(The Chairman of Committees.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
