HL Deb 18 June 1969 vol 302 c1023
LORD VIVIAN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they are considering a recommendation from the advisory committee headed by Lord Plowden whereby thirty Permanent Secretaries in the Civil Service would get increases in salaries from the present £8,600–£9,200 range to match the Prime Minister's £14,000 a year within two years.]

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (LORD SHACKLETON)

My Lords, the Standing Advisory Committee under the Chairmanship of Lord Plowden have made recommendations on the pay of the Higher Civil Service and they are being considered by the Government.

LORD VIVIAN

My Lords, while thanking the noble Lord the Lord Privy Seal for that Answer, may I ask him whether he can tell your Lordships what sort of sum of money will be involved?

LORD SHACKLETON

My Lords, I am sorry that I cannot at this stage disclose the nature of the Committee's recommendations.

LORD VIVIAN

I thank the noble Lord.
