HL Deb 25 July 1969 vol 304 cc1190-1

[No. 3A]

Clause 79, page 46, line 20, leave out from "it" to "be" in line 21 and insert "Schedule 7 to this Act shall apply and, if the tenancy was granted before the commencement of this Act, "

The Commons agreed to this Amendment but proposed the following Amendment thereto:

Line 3, leave out "commencement" and insert "passing".

Lord KENNET

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment to the Lords Amendment No. 3A.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Kennet.)

Lord BROOKE of CUMNOR

My Lords, I take it that this is a drafting Amendment. The original Lords Amendment was a Government Amendment. I can only presume that the Government got into a muddle and got it wrong and are now having to correct it.

Lord KENNET

My Lords, it is a drafting Amendment, and it turns on the substantial point of whether "commencement" or "passing" is a better word to use for the passing or commencement of an Act.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
