HL Deb 08 July 1969 vol 303 cc1046-7

9.54 p.m.

LORD O'HAGAN

had given Notice of his intention to ask Her Majesty's Government: Whether they are aware of the deterioration of race relations in the United Kingdom, and of the harm being done by the tone of public debate on race and immigration; and whether they will come forward with proposals which will reassure the inhabitants of the United Kingdom, whatever their colour. The noble Lord said: My Lords, because the hour is so late I must ask leave to postpone the Unstarred Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper. I apologise now, as I hope I have apologised in person, to those of your Lordships who have been inconvenienced. I hope you will nourish your resentment and let it blossom forth into vigorous speech when my Unstarred Question comes up again, which will be soon.
