My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend Lord Shepherd, I beg leave to introduce a Bill to make provision for modifying the law in consequence of the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar; to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar as a Republic within the Commonwealth and the subsequent adoption by that republic of the name of Tanzania: to make provision as to the operation of the Colonial and Other Territories (Divorce Jurisdiction) Acts 1926 to 1950 in relation to the courts of Tanganyika and of the United Republic; and for purposes connected therewith. I beg to move that this Bill be now read a first time.
