HL Deb 08 October 1968 vol 296 c975
LORD GRIMSTON OF WESTBURY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask a Question of which I have given Private Notice—namely, to ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will make a statement on the developments which have taken place in the situation with regard to Rhodesia since the House rose for the Summer Recess on August 1 last.

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, my noble friend the Leader of the House expects to make a Statement on Rhodesia before the House rises to-day.

LORD GRIMSTON OF WESTBURY

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for that reply. While not wishing to press the matter, may I ask whether he can give any indication of when the Statement is likely to be made?

LORD BESWICK

No, my Lords; I cannot at the present time. However, if during the morning the situation clears, I will endeavour to let the noble Lord know.

My Lords, I hope it will be for the convenience of the House if we adjourn to-day for, say, half an hour at a convenient moment at about one o'clock. It is impossible to say what time the House will rise this evening, although given the sort of co-operation that we had yesterday, I hope that it will not be at a late hour. I intend that sandwiches shall be available this evening.
