HL Deb 31 July 1968 vol 296 cc358-9

[References are to Bill 64 as first printed for the Commons.]

[No. 1]

Clause 1, page 1, line 18, leave out (including the Greater London Council)".

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 1. I hope it will be to the convenience of the House to speak also to Amendments 25, 26 and 27 in Clause 1, since they arc related to the Amendment I am now moving. The purpose of these Amendments is to bring the Greater London Council within the definition of "local authority" for the purposes of the Bill and of the Civil Aviation Act 1949 except where the context otherwise requires. I beg to move.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I am afraid that I cannot put to the House Amendments which are not consecutive in number.

Moved, That the House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment (No.1).—(Lord Beswick.)

THE EARL OF KINNOULL

My Lords, I am grateful for the noble Lord's explanation. I assume that helicopter space is one of the purposes for which the Greater London Council requires to be in the Bill.

LORD BESWICK

My Lords, to be quite frank with the noble Earl, I am not sure whether a heliport is included within the definition of "aerodrome". But certainly on most of the aerodromes, including Heathrow, a space on which helicopters could land is included.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
