§ LORD BEAUMONT OF WHITLEYMy Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps the Department of Education and Science is taking to discuss with members of local education authorities and voluntary bodies dealing with Youth Services the proposals of the Seebohm Report.]
§ BARONESS PHILLIPSMy Lords, general consultations on the Seebohm Report are being conducted by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Social Services. The Seebohm Committee did not report on the Youth Service itself. In so far as their recommendations may affect the situation in which the Youth Service operates, these are already being taken into account by the Youth Service Development Council, which is conducting its own review of the future scope and pattern of the Youth Service and is expected to present its recommendations to the Secretary of State for Education and Science in the spring of next year. When the Council's advice is received, the local education authorities and the voluntary youth organisations would be among those consulted.
§ LORD BEAUMONT OF WHITLEYMy Lords, I thank the noble Baroness for that satisfactory reply.
