§ LORD BESWICKMy Lords, subject to the progress of Business, it is hoped that the House will rise for the Christmas Recess on Wednesday, December 18, and return on Tuesday, January 21, 1969.
EARL ST. ALDWYNMy Lords, I am grateful to the noble Lord for giving that information to the House, but it disturbs me a little because there was some discussion, when we sat rather longer than another place in the summer, that there should be some small compensation. In this announcement I do not see any sign of such compensation.
§ LORD BESWICKMy Lords, I am sorry that the noble Earl should be thinking in terms of more time off when we are calling for extra productivity elsewhere. In fact, the dates which I have mentioned do give us three more days off than another place. Although previously I said something about compensation, I did not necessarily relate it to the Christmas Recess, and I still have hopes for a little later on.
