HL Deb 10 May 1967 vol 282 cc1428-9

2.48 p.m.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT (LORD KENNET) moved that the West Midlands (Amendment) Order 1967, be approved. The noble Lord said: My Lords, by the West Midlands Order 1965, my right honourable friend the Minister of Housing of the day, among other changes, transferred part of the former Borough of Oldbury to the Borough of Halesowen. In that part there was an Essoldo Cinema. In the former Borough of Oldbury it was possible for the justices to license cinemas to open on Sundays. In the Borough of Halesowen the justices have no such power. This amending Order restores the right of the cinema to apply for a licence to open on Sundays by applying Section 1 of the Sunday Entertainments Act 1932 to the part of the former Borough of Oldbury now in the Borough of Halesowen. My Lords, I beg to move.

Moved, That the West Midlands (Amendment) Order 1967 be approved.—(Lord Kennet.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
