HL Deb 07 March 1967 vol 280 cc1318-9

2.38 p.m.

LORD REDMAYNE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will introduce legislation to provide for the collection of stamp duty on foreign travellers' cheques by means other than adhesive stamps.]

LORD BOWLES

My Lords, I understand that the noble Lord has already made this suggestion in a letter to my honourable and learned friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury and the matter is under consideration.

LORD REDMAYNE

My Lords, while thanking the noble Lord for that reply, may I ask him to press the Treasury to ensure that the clause necessary for this quite small reform is included in this year's Finance Bill?

LORD BOWLES

My Lords, I am sure my honourable and learned friend will take notice of what the noble Lord has just said.
