HL Deb 14 July 1967 vol 284 cc1403-4

1.54 p.m.

Report of Amendments received (according to Order).

Clause 4 [Safe custody etc. of drugs]:

LORD STONHAM

My Lords, with Amendment No. 1, I should also like to deal with Amendments Nos. 2, 3 and 4. All four are drafting Amendments which are designed to bring together for convenient reference in Clause 7—the interpretation clause—the three definitions of "drug" at present included in Clause 4, "Safe custody of drugs", Clause 5 "Further powers to make regulations", and Clause 6 "Further powers to search and obtain evidence". I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 5, line 12, leave out subsection (6).—(Lord Stonham.)

LORD SANDFORD

My Lords, the noble Lord has brought before us four Amendments which amend four other Amendments which he brought before us on Committee stage. In so far as this indicates that the Home Office is moving with some haste in this matter, I think they are very much to be welcomed. I only wish the noble Lord could imbue his friends in the Ministry of Health with the same sense of urgency.

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Clause 5 [Further powers to make regulations]:

LORD STONHAM

My Lords, I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 5, line 37, leave out subsection (2).—(Lord Stonham.)

My Lords, I beg to move.

  1. (a) for the purposes of sections 4 and 6 of this Act, any drug to which Part I of the principal Act applies and any substance for the time being specified in the Schedule to the Drugs (Prevention of Misuse) Act 1964;
  2. (b) for the purposes of section 5 of this Act, any drug to which Part I of the principal Act applies; and
  3. (c) for the purposes of the said section 6, any drug to which Part II of the principal Act applies.").—(Lord Stonham.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Schedule [Tribunals and advisory bodies]:

LORD STONHAM

My Lords, this again is a drafting Amendment. The College of General Practitioners was given the title "Royal College of General Practitioners" with effect from April 14 this year. We did not quite catch up with it on Committee stage, but I hope the noble Lord, Lord Sandford, will be satisfied with our speed in at least catching up on Report stage. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 8, line 18, after ("the") insert ("Royal").—(Lord Stonham.)

LORD SANDFORD

My Lords, the doctors have been quick to attend to their dignity. I hope that now they will be quick to attend to their duties under this Bill.

On Question, Amendment agreed to.
