[The EARL OF LISTOWEL in the Chair.]

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

My Lords, this Bill has been amended by the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills, and there is a further Amendment to be moved in Committee this afternoon. I shall therefore go through the Bill in the usual way.

Clauses 1 to 115 agreed to.

Clause 116 [Construction of references etc.]:

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD GARDINER)

This is a minor drafting Amendment, the object of which is to make it clear that Clause 116(8) is concerned with the identification of a geographical area, and not with nomenclature. It has arisen since the matter was before the Joint Committee because somebody with some knowledge in this field wrote to ask which meaning was intended. The wording had been thought to be perfectly clear as it was, but, if there can be any possible doubt about it I feel that the Bill should not leave this House without that doubt being resolved. This Amendment would resolve it. The noble and learned Lord, Lord Upjohn, Chairman of the Committee, has been consulted and in the circumstances approves of the Amendment. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 93, line 33, after ("to") insert ("an area which is").—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Clause 116, as amended, agreed to.

Remaining clauses and Schedules agreed to.

House resumed: Bill reported, with the Amendment.
