HL Deb 10 November 1966 vol 277 c991
LORD MOYNIHAN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether, in view of traffic congestion in London, they would be prepared to advise Her Majesty to hold future Garden Parties at Windsor Castle, instead of Buckingham Palace.]

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (THE EARL OF LONGFORD)

My Lords, this is not a matter for ministerial advice. The Commissioner of Police considers that any local congestion which may arise can be adequately dealt with by the police.

LORD MOYNIHAN

My Lords, while thanking the noble Earl for that reply, may I ask him: will he consider the possibility that Garden Parties might in future be held on Saturdays, as is the case with the Queen's Birthday Parade, thus avoiding the interruption of business traffic?

THE EARL OF LONGFORD

My Lords, in view of the Answer I have given, I doubt whether the House would wish me to pursue the matter further.

SEVERAL NOBLE LORDS

Hear! Hear!

THE EARL OF LONGFORD

If the noble Lord wishes to see me at any time, I am, of course, at his disposal.
