HL Deb 05 May 1966 vol 274 c444

3.10 p.m.

LORD SALTOUN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will issue a directive to the railway authorities that "interchange" tickets should regularly be obtainable between, for example, Southern Region and Underground or Tube stations, which—

  1. (a) was one of the advantages claimed for nationalisation before 1947,
  2. (b) would be greatly for the convenience of travellers generally, and
  3. (c) would facilitate the beneficial practice of driving to a suburban station and going on to central London by train.]

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD CHAMPION)

My Lords, a general direction would not be appropriate. This is a matter for the two Boards, who I am sure would explain the facilities available for interchange tickets if the noble Lord wrote to them. My right honourable friend the Minister of Transport's predecessor had general discussions about co-ordination with them and other transport undertakings last year, and I understand they are reviewing various matters including inter-availability of tickets.

LORD SALTOUN

My Lords, I am much obliged to the Government and the noble Lord for that Answer, which I did not expect. I will study it.
