HL Deb 10 March 1966 vol 273 c1209

2.20 p.m.

LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, I beg leave to ask a Question of which I have given Private Notice—namely,

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they can make a Statement about the televising and broadcasting of the State Opening of the First Session of the new Parliament.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (THE EARL OF LONGFORD)

My Lords, Her Majesty the Queen has been graciously pleased to give her consent to the proposal, which has the support of the Government and of the Opposition, that the State Opening of Parliament this year should be broadcast in television and sound. The arrangements are being concerted with the Lord Great Chamberlain.
