THE EARL OF SELKIRK asked Her Majesty's Government:

What sums have been expended in refitting, converting and modernising aircraft carriers during the last ten years.

THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE FOR THE ROYAL AIR FORCE (LORD SHACKLETON)

Since 1st April, 1956, the refitting and docking of aircraft carriers has cost £39 million, their conversion to other rÔles £16 million and their modernisations £41 million. The figures for conversions and modernisations include the cost of the refits which took place concurrently.
